Microsoft updates old Zune with new Zune firmware
December 2, 2007 – 11:09 am
I’d say its been quite long since I last connected my zune to my computer for updates but when I heard about this new firmware thing, I thought it was too good to be true so I tried it out. I installed the new zune software and connected my Zune. After updating firmware and all that, the first thing that hit me was that Microsoft didn’t attempt to make me erase my library and start from scratch this time. I had been used to backing up all my music on an external hard drive each time I formatted my computer system because I knew they had the habit of requesting that you erase all the content of your zune if you wanted to connect a new host computer. Strikingly, the new firmware is far more awesome than I expected it to be. New layout, no more hanging while scrolling through music, fluid transitions and all that. The new PC software for the Zune too was awesome and I couldn’t help but admiring the look. Another factor that thrilled me about the new firmware was the ability to sync with the computer wireless-ly. All I had to do was hit a button in the Zune PC software with the Zune connected for it to set this up. No complicated configurations on the Zune infact no configurations at all. All I needed to do was to go to the wireless menu on my zune and hit ‘Sync Now’ and without any prior configurations on the zune, my zune linked to my computer and synced all the new media all wireless. Now I don’t need to ever connect my zune to my computer except for a new firmware update. Is that cool or what? Microsoft did a good job right there and I really commend them for that. Most interestingly, which other media player company has ever released a new generation set of their media players and updated the old generation players with the new generation player’s firmware? That’s maturity right there, what company has ever done that? Please drop a comment if I’m mistaken but no company has ever had the boldness to do that. Fear that the product won’t sell in the market properly I guess. Well, all other portable media player makers, WATCH AND LEARN. You might be able to dominate or break even in the market with your pioneer factor, great price and whatever else. Zune has been in market for less than a year and they are showing you the way. For all media player owners, Microsoft loves you and cares about the future of your entertainment and media device. They don’t want you scrambling around the internet for a good price on a new generation player or make your device look useless because the new one’s firmware is way cooler. And that’s not all, they have this new Zune Social thing that I’ve not even tried out. I heard its an entertainment social network for Zune users and I believe that’s definitely another awesome functionality. Fall in love with Zune now and make your device remain relevant in the ever changing gadget world. As the image above portrays, the old zune can sit with the new zune with only the designs different but exactly the same functionality. For those of you who don’t know the Zune or want to know more about its functionality, here is the Official Zune website.
